My grandparents were ferocious scrabble players, and I grew up with the rules being "if the biggest dictionary in the house says it's not a proper noun, and abbreviation, or a foreign term, it's legal". I remember going out one time to get my grandmother a new Word Book, because hers was literally falling apart.
I don't play - not good at that stuff - but I know the basics.
anyone have updates on the MA state #flag and #seal redesign?
This @gbhnews
article from last year said no design was currently being considered post the decision to remove the current racist imagery? #mapoli#news#art
@gbhnews hi! that makes sense. I'm not an expert, of course, but here's how I'd rewrite it: "1.3 million people trapped as Israel bombs Rafah" because that's the bigger news. Focusing on "Palestinian militants" is misleading, as if this a battle between equals rather than the domination of one over the other.
thanks so much for the reply! your presence here really does rule!
@gbhnews The last (known) surviving runner from Bannister’s record race was also the only American: George Dole of Bath, Maine (via Yale). Dole had an illustrious career as a theologian in the Swedenborgian church and lived in Newton for years before retiring to Bath in the late ‘90s and taking over his father’s pulpit there. He died in 2021, still a regular runner and happy to talk about his little bit of history: https://www.runnersworld.com/news/a20807933/the-unknown-american-in-the-first-sub-4-00-mile/

@gbhnews Indeed. They’re both classics! Thanks for making these daily posts so fun. They’re a nice little bright spot for an old nerd like me who grew up on WGBH programming.
